About the Artist

chari

Ever since her father had transformed the “small” bathroom in their home into a darkroom, Chari has had a fascination with photography. She loved using light and shadow to change how an object presented itself to the camera.

After being trained by a Master Framer, Chari began work as a custom picture framer in a Honolulu frame shop. She did this until opening her own shop in 1986. Until she decided that making a living would take precedence over her artistic instinct, and she became a successful computer geek. Although that decision has served her well, she missed having a creative outlet in her life. So she began dabbling in digital media and web design.

It was through the marriage of her three loves — photography, picture framing and digital imagery — that her prints became reality. Her images are created using a unique imaging technique; resulting in a photograph without the use of a camera. She uses a high-resolution flatbed scanner to create high resolution image files. The resulting images are then printed on high-quality photo paper utilizing the Giclée [commonly pronounced "zhee-clay”] printing process, producing permanent, true-color reproductions that appear to float right off the page.
